Dear Nigerian Job Interviewers, Please Stop Stressing Us

1. When you sit down and they say “can we meet you?”

Abi you cannot see me?

2. When they ask you “why should we hire you?”

Do you want me to starve?

3. When they ask you where you see yourself in 5 years.

My eyes are paining me, biko.

4. When they ask you how much you’d like to get paid and then cut that figure in half.

Hay God!

5. When they know you’re 25 and still ask for 24 years experience.

Is it fair?

6. How you laugh when the interviewer cracks a dry joke:

Ya very funny sir.

7. When you finish the interview and find out you still have 3 more tests.

Is it that deep?

8. When they ask you what their company goals are.

See question.

9. How you feel when the person interviewing you asks a stupid question:

You that you have the job you don’t even have sense.

10. You, waiting for them to get back to you.

You people should call me na,

11. When the interviewer that was cracking jokes with you doesn’t get back to you.

Where is the loyalty?

If you’re two months late paying your rent in Cameroon, a new law will put you in jail

Cameroon is in the process of updating its 50-year-old penal code, and making some curious amendments.

Tenants who are over two months late paying their rent can be sentenced to up to three years in jail, according to legislation passed by the lower house of parliament this week. The senate is expected to give the new law the green light this week during a special session.

In a country where unemployment is at 30% and almost half the population of 22 million people live below the national poverty line, the new law is likely to hit hard. About a third of Cameroonian households are tenants, and they spend the majority of their income on rent. The average monthly rent in urban areas is $200, at least half what the average household makes.

Cameroon is home to vague property and tenancy laws. These are made more complicated by the fact that only a small percentage of households register their land. Land rights are one of the most contentious issues in Cameroon, where another 1 million homes need to be built over the next five years to accommodate the growing population.

Local lawyers, journalists, and students are protesting the new code, arguing that tenancy disagreements should be dealt with in civil, not criminal court. The Cameroon Anglophone Newspaper Publishers’ Association, in a somewhat snarky riposte, asked whether the government should also be punished when it fails to pay civil servants on time:

“On this issue, Mr. President, we would like to take the example of the public service alone, where new recruits into the various services often go for well over 24 months without pay while waiting to be integrated or are paid a little under half of their salaries to cope in villages and big cities alike…What sanctions have been set aside to make them pay the workers so that they do not get thrown into jail by landlords?”

Nigerian FA questions Wayne Rooney’s real age

The head of the Nigerian FA has suggested that Wayne Rooney may secretly be much older than his official age of 30.
Samuel Amokachi demanded to see the England captain’s passport after watching his performance against Iceland.

“You expect me to believe that was the performance of a 30-year-old? Maybe in dog years. And not a healthy dog.
“Seriously, this guy turned up at 16 years old built like a cruiserweight, then by his late 20s his legs were gone. What are we supposed to make of that?
“If he were Nigerian you would naturally assume he had a false age. Why should an Englishman be different? He has middle-aged spread for goodness sake!”
When asked for comment, Wayne Rooney’s representatives refused to confirm or deny the rumours.
“We asked Wayne his age, but he was unable to provide an answer. He made it as far as ten but then ran out of fingers and thumbs. And he couldn’t manage to untie his shoelaces to move onto his toes.”

Ambode Lauds Local, Foreign Investor

Lagos State Governor, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode, yesterday lauded the enthusiasm displayed by local and foreign investors and entrepreneurs in locating their investments in the state.

The governor, who spoke through the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Mr. Tunji Bello, during the Lagos State Business Districts (CBD) 2016 Stakeholders' Forum, said the presence of the investors would be boosted with the emerging opportunities in the socio-economic landscape of the state.

He added that the present administration is also providing more opportunities to investors and entrepreneurs in the emerging economic profile of the Lagos Mega City in the various sectors of real estate development, marine transportation, commercial and business activities.

He, therefore, urged the stakeholders to share experiences, ideas and evolve new strategies that will enhance the effectiveness of the CBD administration and management for the benefit of all.

Speaking earlier, Special Adviser to the Governor on Central Business Districts, Mr. Agboola Dabiri, reiterated the readiness of the government to return the lost glory of Lagos Island by bringing back corporate organisations and private companies to the Business District just as it was in the eighties.

He added that the state government had committed enormous resources in rebranding, painting, beautification and general upliftment of the axis to ensure it is conducive for businesses to thrive.
