3 Sentenced to Death By Hanging For Rubbery
Ganiyu Hassan,a student and a bike rider, Wasiu Arepo, an aluminum products manufacturer and Oluwaseun Idowu, a driver has been sentenced to death by hanging by Justice Lateef Lawal-Akapo of Ikeja High Court.
The convicts were found guilty on a four count charge of murder and armed robbery. The offence which was commited on February 5, 2011 at Aleke village, Imota at 2a.m when they broke into the house of one Mr Abubakar demanding the money he had withdrawn from the bank a day before. Mr Abubakar received a shot to the chest while they made away with N15,000 and other valuables and he dead on his way to the hospital.
The criminals were caught in a nearby community 2hrs later by the vigilante group in the area after the wife of the victim reported the matter at Imota Police Station and was able to identify one of the convicts.

If you’re two months late paying your rent in Cameroon, a new law will put you in jail
Cameroon is in the process of updating its 50-year-old penal code, and making some curious amendments.
Tenants who are over two months late paying their rent can be sentenced to up to three years in jail, according to legislation passed by the lower house of parliament this week. The senate is expected to give the new law the green light this week during a special session.
In a country where unemployment is at 30% and almost half the population of 22 million people live below the national poverty line, the new law is likely to hit hard. About a third of Cameroonian households are tenants, and they spend the majority of their income on rent. The average monthly rent in urban areas is $200, at least half what the average household makes.
Cameroon is home to vague property and tenancy laws. These are made more complicated by the fact that only a small percentage of households register their land. Land rights are one of the most contentious issues in Cameroon, where another 1 million homes need to be built over the next five years to accommodate the growing population.
Local lawyers, journalists, and students are protesting the new code, arguing that tenancy disagreements should be dealt with in civil, not criminal court. The Cameroon Anglophone Newspaper Publishers’ Association, in a somewhat snarky riposte, asked whether the government should also be punished when it fails to pay civil servants on time:
“On this issue, Mr. President, we would like to take the example of the public service alone, where new recruits into the various services often go for well over 24 months without pay while waiting to be integrated or are paid a little under half of their salaries to cope in villages and big cities alike…What sanctions have been set aside to make them pay the workers so that they do not get thrown into jail by landlords?”

He, therefore, urged the stakeholders to share experiences, ideas and evolve new strategies that will enhance the effectiveness of the CBD administration and management for the benefit of all.
Speaking earlier, Special Adviser to the Governor on Central Business Districts, Mr. Agboola Dabiri, reiterated the readiness of the government to return the lost glory of Lagos Island by bringing back corporate organisations and private companies to the Business District just as it was in the eighties.
He added that the state government had committed enormous resources in rebranding, painting, beautification and general upliftment of the axis to ensure it is conducive for businesses to thrive.

School Teacher Rapes 14-Year-Old Girl in Lagos with N30
A secondary school teacher, Cosmos Ubaja, was on Monday arrested by the police in Lagos State for allegedly raping a 14-year-old schoolgirl in Ikorodu area of the state.
The unnamed teenager had gone to Ubaja’s shop to make photocopies after school hours when the accused lured her into sleeping with her.
According to the Punch, the victim, a Junior Secondary School, Class 3 student in a public secondary school in the Owutu area of Ikorodu, had been allegedly raped by the suspect on several occasions in eight months and was always given peanuts such as N50, N100 and N30, each time.

Thieves in Kwara Are Now Stealing Cooked Food
It’s been a long day and your stomach is basically saying “epp me”. So you drag yourself to the kitchen to make a nice pot of Jollof or even Eba.
And just when you’re about to serve your food and eat till you pass out…
You realise some people have moved your pot of food.
This food theft is reportedly happening in many parts of Kwara state such as Tanke, Basin, Sango and Offa Garage, especially to people living in unfenced houses.
As reported by The Guardian, these wicked thieves look out for people’s cooking pots and steal them right when the food is ready.
However, the police spokesman, Ajayi Okasanmi, vowed to deal with anyone caught stealing food according to the Penal Code.
The former chairman of the NLC, Emmanuel Ayeoribe, even related this shocking events to the non-payment of Kwara state workers’ salaries.
It is unfortunate to realise the lengths people in Kwara state have to go just to feed themselves. We hope these salaries get paid on time so the crime rate doesn’t rise to a dangerous level.

Ajao Estate, Isolo, Lagos state.
The 41-year-old Anyanwu said he committed this taboo out
of frustration after losing his job.
